Tess Lankford - 3rd Grade Student, Rodgers Forge Elementary

Picture
Tess has been at student at Rodgers Forge Elementary School since Kindergarten.  She likes to write and draw, and her favorite subject in school is reading.  Her favorite book is Duke, by Kirby Larson, about a dog who goes to fight with the army.  She loves both Dolphin Tale movies.  Tess loves animals, and has a pet lizard named Biko.  She has an older brother, and her parents both work in schools as a teacher and a guidance counselor.  She is a swimmer, and once in a race she was one second away from a state time!  Tess is very excited to be working with the new devices as a student in a Lighthouse school.

June 2015
Tess reflects on her year with devices at a Lighthouse School.

March 2015
Tess gives an update on what additional cool tech tools they are using in third grade.

January 2015
This year there are a lot of different things about the way we learn compared to last year.  For math we used to have to do things on scrap paper, and now we get to use the program Paint to show how we figured it out.  For reading we used to all have to get out our Wonders books and now we just go on BCPSOne and get the story you’re looking for.  We just finished Chesapeake Bay posters in science, and we were allowed to do it on paper or using Wixie, and I used Wixie.  This year you’re allowed to move around the room to work and you can use the Fatboys (beanbag pillows and stools).

November 2014
As Tess has now had more time with her device, she shares some of the websites and tools she is using in the classroom.

October 2014
I think it’s more exciting learning this year in a Lighthouse School because I’m kind of techie and I like to type and am writing my own story at home.  I help people out when they need help and stuff.  The device is cool because you can tap on the screen with your fingers.  We’re learning in math how to make a slideshow to show different groups of things.  In library Mrs. Barry showed us something called Paint and it’s where you can use your fingers or your mouse to paint or draw a picture.  Then there’s Reading Wonders that tells you what different activities you can do and you can put on your headphones and read a book on the device.
