Dinah Segree - Parent, Edmondson Heights Elementary

Picture
Dinah Segree is a dedicated parent of three BCPS students.  Her twin third grade sons attend Edmondson Heights Elementary School in Woodlawn, MD where she serves as the PTA President.  Her oldest son is currently a sixth grade student at Southwest Academy.  When she isn’t organizing school events and communicating with the school community, Dinah enjoys the holidays and spending time with her family.  She loves to cook and help others.

June
I had the pleasure to briefly observe a Ms. Garman’s class research China.  The students were very engaged and focused on their research.   Ms. Garman’s class created their presentation while using PowerPoint, Wixie, ActivInspire, or paper to complete their work.

April
Edmondson Heights had their first Extravaganza April 23rd.  Parents and students arrived at Edmondson Heights excited and ready to see all the interesting work the students accomplished for the year.  Third grade students displayed their devices with a story they recorded with their own voice using Wixie.  I thought that was awesome for parents to hear their child reading on their devices.

March
The students at Edmondson Heights have been really working hard.  This month our third grade students used their devices for PARCC testing. Students had to learn how to use their devices in different ways specifically for the test.

This month has been very busy with trying to make sure the students were prepared for testing.  The inclement weather has made things a little challenging, but our students have been on the striving to use their devices to its full potential.

December
Well, it’s just about the end of 2014 school year!  The students knowledge in using their devices have really blossomed.  Technology seems to be one of the most popular times during the day, besides recess.    I cannot wait to report more information in 2015.  Happy Holidays!

October
As a parent, I think Edmondson Heights becoming a Lighthouse school has been a wonderful experience for our students and teachers.  Students in grades 1-3 have shown great enthusiasm with digital learning.  When it’s time to use technology, the looks on the students faces fill with joy as they grab their laptops and wait for instructions.  Introducing technology to our students  at a young age is the "way-to-go."  I am looking forward to observing more of the students accomplishments with digital learning.
