In my Paramedical Biology class, we used The Reconstructors, an online game from Rice University, to discover things about the drugs that we were learning about.  The title of this activity was called “A Plaguing Problem”-We need pain killers- but are they safe?  This was part of our month long unit on drugs.

This game was a standout for me because the way it worked was you had research to get information about a certain drug before you could move onto the next level, forcing you to do your work!  You couldn’t move on until you knew certain things.  We worked individually, as a single player in this game.  I enjoyed this game because I really learned a lot about certain drugs for example, I learned that poppy plants are a botanical medicinal form of drugs.   From this unit I took away a feeling that I will want to exercise caution in my own life, especially when it comes to pain killers such as morphine. I learned how dangerously addictive this can be!

Now that I am in 12th grade I am thinking more about finances and how to manage my funds responsibly.  I am loving my EPI class with Mrs. Baikauskas.  In this class we are learning about important things like how to not mess up our credit, interest rates and banking information.  We have been doing meaningful lessons through Ever-Fi.  Having devices makes it so easy to connect to the lessons anytime.  Using this blended approach, during class we have the ability to share and discuss what we are learning.  The lesson on banking was particularly helpful for me.  I want to make the best choices with my money and this lesson gave us the opportunity to analyze banks in many ways, so that we can make the best choice.

My group worked together to present information on Suntrust Bank.  We collected a lot of information about this bank and shared with the class by making a poster.  We shared information like branch locations, annual fees, and whether or not they offer debit or credit cards.

After this lesson, I am feeling good about the bank I am with now.  Now, that I know what specific things to look for I think Bank of America is the best choice for me.  I like analyzing things according to opportunity cost and getting information in school that I can apply to my life.
